St. Timothy Conference

of the

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

To see Christ in anyone who suffers.
To come together as a family.
To have personal contact with the poor.
To help in all ways possible.

Who We Are

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul(SSVP) has a rich history, and the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Parish Conference of the SSVP began in the spring of 1999.  Our Conference was aggregated with the international Society in September of 2001. In 2008, we formed a Youth Conference of SSVP. We are a registered charity with Revenue Canada and we are generously supported by the many parishioners of the Parish of St. Timothy.

What We Do

Today, approximately 22 Vincentians serve the Poor in all parts of Winnipeg. Some of the ways that we have tried to live the Gospel message and serve Christ in the poor are as follows:

  • Pray together.

  • Deliver groceries and smiles to Friends in need.

  • Collect and deliver gently-used furniture.

  • Prepare Christmas Hampers in cooperation with the Christmas Cheer Board of  Winnipeg.

  • Collect winter clothing, blankets and toiletries for Chez Nous, a Main Street drop-in centre.

  • Visit prisoners.

  • Collect books and school supplies for children.

  • Serve at a breakfast program in a local school.

  • Donate to international emergency relief efforts.

  • Support our brothers and sisters in the North through the SSVP Conference in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut.

How We Operate

Following the Rule of SSVP Canada, we elect a board of directors consisting of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary every three years.  Members meet every other Monday evening in the parish library to pray, receive financial reports, and organize our activities. We are led in prayer by our Spiritual Director. Our Conference reports to the Western Council of SSVP Canada. Annual reports of our activities are filed with the Parish of St. Timothy and the Western Council of SSVP. A T3010 Registered Charity Information Return is also filed annually with the Canada Revenue Agency. More than 99% of all donations go directly to aid the poor in Winnipeg.

Grocery Deliveries

Winnipegers (our Friends) call our telephone number (204-949-3766) and leave a message with a telephone number that they can be called back at.

A Vincention "caller" calls our Friend back to learn of their needs including food allergies, family size, name, address and telephone number, and arranges for a delivery of groceries.  The caller assigns 4 - 6 families to a pair of Vincentians who subsequently deliver groceries to the families in need. Vincentians are encouraged to commune with our Friends on the telephone and upon making a delivery.
